New Delhi, Delhi, India

About

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change is the apex policymaking and administrative body of the Government of India for environmental and forestry programmes. It is responsible for planning, promotion, co-ordination and overseeing implementation of environmental and forestry policies and programmes, including conservation of the country's natural resources, biodiversity, forests and wildlife, prevention and control of pollution, afforestation and regeneration of degraded areas, and protection of the environment within the framework of sustainable development. The Ministry administers flagship environmental education initiatives such as the National Green Corps (NGC) eco-club programme, which has built a nationwide network of school-based eco-clubs engaging children in biodiversity, water, energy, waste management and resource conservation activities. The Centre for Environment Education (CEE) serves as the national resource agency, while State Nodal Agencies such as State Pollution Control Boards and State Councils of Science, Technology and Environment implement the programme on the ground. The Ministry also serves as the nodal agency for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP), the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), and for the follow-up of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development.
