The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is a dedicated ministry of the Government of India, established in November 2014. It was created to coordinate and drive all skill development efforts across the country. The ministry's primary objective is to bridge the gap between the demand and supply of skilled manpower, thereby enhancing the employability of India's youth. The MSDE is responsible for creating a robust vocational and technical training framework. It works towards upgrading existing skills and fostering new skills and innovative thinking to meet the demands of both current and future job markets. The ministry's vision is to build a 'Skilled India' by scaling up skill development initiatives with high standards and efficiency. Through its various functional arms like the Directorate General of Training (DGT), National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), and National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), the ministry implements several key schemes. Major initiatives include the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), the Skill India Mission, Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), and the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), which collectively aim to provide industry-relevant training to millions. The ministry plays a crucial role in national development by empowering the youth with the necessary skills to succeed in the modern economy. It collaborates with various central ministries, state governments, and private sector organizations to ensure a cohesive and effective skilling ecosystem across India.
