About
The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) is the apex government institution in India dedicated to the holistic development of women and children. Established as an independent ministry in 2006, it formulates policies, plans, and programs to address gender and child welfare issues across the nation. The Ministry's broad mandate includes empowering women to lead dignified lives, promoting their socio-economic advancement, and ensuring children receive equitable opportunities for growth in safe environments. It works to advance gender equality and child-centric legislations. MWCD implements various flagship schemes such as Mission Poshan 2.0, Mission Shakti, and Mission Vatsalya, which provide integrated services for nutrition, protection, and empowerment. The Ministry also coordinates efforts with governmental and non-governmental organizations. Key initiatives include the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, and the establishment of One Stop Centres. These programs aim to improve health, education, and safety outcomes for women and children nationwide. The Ministry also celebrates 'Veer Bal Diwas' on December 26th to commemorate the sacrifices of Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Sahibzade, Zorawar Singh Ji and Fateh Singh Ji.
