About
Tata Trusts is one of India's oldest and largest philanthropic organizations, tracing its origins to 1892 when Jamsetji Tata established the JN Tata Endowment for the higher education of Indians. It operates as an umbrella body overseeing several allied trusts, including the Sir Ratan Tata Trust, established in 1919, and the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, established in 1932. The organization works to empower underserved and underprivileged communities across India, with particular focus on women and children, spanning causes such as health and nutrition, education, water and sanitation, livelihoods, social justice and inclusion, skilling, environment, digital literacy, sports, and arts. Tata Trusts holds a substantial shareholding in Tata Sons, the apex holding company of the Tata group, which funds much of its philanthropic activity. Within its sports vertical, Tata Trusts supports grassroots development across badminton, hockey, football, cricket, boxing, and polo, reaching several Indian states through partnerships with state sports associations, national academies, and government bodies. The organization has also supported over 5,600 JN Tata Scholars globally through its education programmes since inception.
