The Bangalore Gayana Samaja Annual Music Competitions is a prestigious series of Carnatic classical music contests conducted by the Samaja since 1951. The Junior Krithi Vocal category focuses on performances of Krithi compositions, the principal compositional form of Carnatic music with structured Pallavi, Anupallavi, and Charanam sections, in Sanskrit, Telugu, or Tamil. Composers such as Tyagaraja, Muthuswami Dikshitar, and Syama Sastri are represented. Competitions are held at Acharya Pathasala High School, Basavanagudi, Bengaluru.
This category is open to Junior division students who are learning Carnatic classical vocal music. Participants present one Krithi composition of their choice within the allotted performance duration, evaluated by panels of senior Carnatic musicians on raga accuracy, tala adherence, sahitya rendering, and overall vocal quality. Junior level performances are evaluated for greater musical maturity and tonal quality than the Sub-Junior tier.
Winners receive First, Second, Third, and Consolation prizes from one of India's oldest operational Carnatic music sabhas. Outstanding young performers across all competition categories are additionally felicitated with the Yuva Kala Rathna title at the Annual Music Conference in November, which carries a cash prize of Rs. 20,000.

Rounds & format
Single round. Candidates present a list of three Kritis in different Ragas to the judges. The judge selects one Krithi from the list for the candidate to perform. Duration: approximately 5 minutes.
How entries are judged
Evaluation by panels of senior Carnatic musicians on: accuracy of raga (swara precision), adherence to tala (laya), quality of sahitya rendering, tonal quality and voice culture, and overall musical maturity at the Junior level.
Selection process
Prize-winners are selected by the jury panel based on their Carnatic classical Krithi vocal performance.
