About This Opportunity
The Hamsadhwani Annual Music Competition is a Carnatic vocal contest organised every year by the Hamsadhwani cultural association in Adyar, Chennai. The event provides a structured platform for young singers to perform classical krithis before an audience and panel.
The competition is open to learners of Carnatic vocal music in two age groups, Juniors aged 12 to 17 years and Seniors aged 17 to 22 years. Participants enrol with a list of krithis covering compositions of the Carnatic Trinity, Papanasam Sivan and Narayana Theerthar.
Juniors are required to render five krithis from the prescribed composers. Seniors enrol with seven krithis and are also assessed on raga alapana, neraval and swaraprastharam, the elaborative elements of a Carnatic performance.
Winners are honoured at a special function organised by Hamsadhwani. Special prizes are awarded for excellent rendition of compositions of Narayana Theerthar, Papanasam Sivan and Muthuswamy Dikshithar.
