About this opportunity

Kala Bharathi is the arts wing of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Bengaluru Kendra, where students learn Kathak through a structured five-year diploma taught by trained performing dancers.

The diploma runs as a three-year Junior stage followed by a two-year Senior stage. Classes are held on weekends, on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings, so the course fits alongside regular schooling. Students may join at either the Race Course Road centre or the South centre at Chamarajpet, and both centres run the same graded syllabus.

Teaching is led by Vidushi Smt. Mijink Rani Brahma, trained under the Kathak exponent Prof. Dr. Mandvi Singh, who combines traditional technique with a contemporary approach, and by Vidushi Dhara Mavani of the Gandharva school of Kathak, known for her use of Hori, Jhula and footwork and for preparing students to perform on stage. Theory and practical examinations are conducted by external examiners and are optional, so students who want the training without the assessment may take the course purely as a hobby.
