About This Opportunity
The National Robotics League (NRL) is a school robotics championship organized by The Innovation Story in collaboration with IIT Bombay. The competition challenges students to design, build, and program robots using a provided Kit of Parts, culminating in arena battles at IIT Bombay. Each edition features a unique theme that connects robotics challenges to real-world engineering problems.
The competition is open to students in Grades 7 to 12 from schools across India. Participation is team-based, with each team comprising 5 to 7 students and one adult mentor. Both school teams and community teams consisting of students from the same locality but different schools are eligible to compete.
Participants develop skills across five signature domains: mechanical engineering, electronics, programming, data-driven optimization, and team leadership. Cash prizes worth over Rs 10 Lakhs are distributed across four award categories. All teams receive joint certification from IIT Bombay and The Innovation Story, and top performers gain access to internship opportunities in industry and academia.
The competition includes a build season spanning several months, community meetups, masterclasses with robotics experts, and an Innovation Showcase. Teams also create a digital Engineering Portfolio documenting their design and development process.
