Eligibility
Open to bona fide regular school students in Grade 6 or above who are below 17 years of age counted from 31 December of the competition year. For the 2026-27 session that means born on or after 1 January 2010. Boys and girls compete in separate sections. The squad is picked and entered by the SGFI affiliated unit of the state or union territory, and a player may enter a discipline through only one age group in a calendar year.

Fee details
SGFI charges a registration fee of Rs 300 per player, paid online by the state or union territory unit through the unit login on the SGFI site after the online entry. The organising committee provides accommodation, local transport and the technical arrangements. Travel from home to the venue and back is paid for by the participating team, and each affiliated unit must insure its own delegation.

The championship is contested across the Recurve, Compound and Indian Round bow categories. Practice and equipment inspection open the championship, followed by a ranking round, then individual and team elimination rounds, and finally the medal matches.
On arrival the unit hands over two sets of the eligibility papers, and age is verified at the team manager's meeting against the birth certificate and school record. SGFI charges a registration fee of Rs 300 per player, paid online by the unit after the online entry. The organising committee provides accommodation, local transport and the technical arrangements, while travel to the venue and insurance for the delegation are the unit's responsibility.

Practice and equipment inspection open the championship, followed by a ranking round, then individual and team elimination rounds, and finally the medal matches.
How entries are judged
Arrows are scored under World Archery rules, with the ranking round setting the seedings and the elimination brackets decided by set or cumulative scores through to the medal matches.

The SGFI affiliated unit of the state or union territory selects the U-17 squad through school, district and state level meets and enters it. Inside the championship, medals are decided within the age group, separately for boys and girls.
