About this opportunity
The U-17 age group of the National School Games Thang-Ta championship is entered, played and medalled on its own. SGFI sets this group as Junior, for players below 17 years of age counted from 31 December of the competition year.
Entry is not something a family files. The SGFI affiliated unit of the state or union territory selects the squad through school, district and state level meets and submits the online entry. A player may enter a discipline through only one age group in a calendar year, so this group is a closed field of its own.
The championship is contested in both the fighting events and the individual performance events. Each bout is fought over two rounds of three minutes with a one minute interval on a circular matted arena, on a knockout draw towards the medal rounds. A tied bout is settled first on warnings issued, then by a one minute extra round, and finally by a toss taken with the consent of both players.
On arrival the unit hands over two sets of the eligibility papers, and age is verified at the team manager's meeting against the birth certificate and school record. A registration, certificate and identity card fee of Rs 130 per player is collected in cash at the venue. The organising committee provides accommodation, local transport and the technical arrangements, while travel to the venue and insurance for the delegation are the unit's responsibility.

How entries are judged
In Phunaba Ama a strike above the upper belt scores plus one, dropping the Chungoi shield or the Phunachei costs three each, and stepping outside the arena outline costs one. Phunaba Anishuba adds plus two for a kick above the upper belt and plus two for cutting the opponent leg while being kicked, and a player may strike at most three targets in an exchange. The higher score wins, and on equal scores the player who was warned is defeated. The individual Kanglon Chatpa events are judged on posture, movement, power, rhythm, speed, balance, breathing and the correct point of blow or defence.

The SGFI affiliated unit of the state or union territory selects the U-17 squad through school, district and state level meets and enters it. Inside the championship, medals are decided within the age group, separately for boys and girls.

Fee details
SGFI charges no entry fee. A registration, certificate and identity card fee of Rs 130 per player is collected in cash by the SGFI representative when the team arrives at the venue. The organising committee provides accommodation, local transport and the technical arrangements; travel from home to the venue and back is paid for by the participating team, and each affiliated unit must insure its own delegation.
