About this opportunity

The SOI Music Academy is a Western classical music training programme run by the National Centre for the Performing Arts with the Symphony Orchestra of India. It admits children by audition and teaches them on a chosen orchestral instrument.

Students receive one-to-one tuition on their primary instrument along with second-study piano lessons, music theory, music history and group singing taught through the Solfeggio method. The teaching draws on the Russian Conservatoire tradition. Lessons are offered on the string instruments, selected woodwind and brass instruments, piano and percussion.

All teachers are professional musicians trained across Europe who play full time with the Symphony Orchestra of India. Students play in the academy orchestra and chamber ensembles, appear as soloists and take part in concerts alongside the orchestra. Academy students have won prizes at international music competitions, and several graduates have gone on to study at conservatories in the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States. The academy has run since 2012.
