About This Opportunity
The Post-Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe Students is a flagship centrally sponsored scheme of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. The scheme was created to encourage Scheduled Tribe students to pursue higher education after Class 10 and reduce the financial burden on tribal families.
The scholarship is available to Scheduled Tribe students pursuing any recognised course requiring Matriculation or Class X qualification. Annual parental income from all sources must not exceed Rs. 2,50,000. The scheme is applicable for studies in India and supports a wide range of academic, professional, technical, and correspondence courses.
Financial support has two components - payment of compulsory fees charged by educational institutions subject to state-determined limits, and a monthly maintenance allowance ranging from Rs. 230 to Rs. 1,200 based on the course of study and the hostel or day scholar status. The scheme has supported over 1.5 million ST beneficiaries across 30 states and union territories.
Applications are processed through state portals or the National Scholarship Portal. The Ministry releases funds to State Governments and UTs based on their proposals, with disbursement directly to beneficiary bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer.
