About This Opportunity
The Prerana Scholarship is a need-cum-merit financial assistance programme run by the Prerana NGO for meritorious students from economically weaker backgrounds in South Karnataka. The scholarship supports students who have completed Class 10 from a recognised board and are pursuing or planning to pursue further studies in Class 11, Pre-University Course, diploma, ITI or higher education. Selected students receive financial aid along with structured mentoring, counselling and skill-development support designed to prevent dropouts and improve career outcomes.
Applicants are expected to be from rural areas or small towns, with proof of residence through a ration card, voter ID or government certificate. The selection process involves a Nurture Merit Test based on basic arithmetic, reasoning, general knowledge and language skills, followed by an interview and a home visit to verify family circumstances. Selected students must commit to regular attendance at training and mentoring sessions and may not hold simultaneous scholarships from other sources without prior approval. The programme places a strong emphasis on supporting first-generation learners, girl students and students from rural colleges.
