Rounds & format

How entries are judged

Bouts follow United World Wrestling scoring, with points for takedowns, exposures, and holds. A wrestler wins by fall, by technical superiority on reaching a ten-point lead in freestyle, or on total points at the end of the two three-minute periods.

Entrants are nominated by their State School Games Federation from district and state-level trials. At the championship, wrestlers advance through knockout bouts with repechage, and medallists are decided in the weight-category medal bouts.
