Open to all genders aged 10 to 15 years in Group I. Participants must submit proof of age with the entry form. Previous first prize winners in Group I are not eligible to re-enter the same group. Artistes listed on All India Radio or Doordarshan are also not permitted to participate. In-person attendance in Mumbai is mandatory.

Rounds & format

How entries are judged

Judging is done by a panel nominated by the Sabha; the decision of the judges is final. Performances are evaluated on rhythmic accuracy, command over the prescribed Talas, technique and presentation.

Selection process

Direct selection based on the live performance before the judges. Where fewer than three entries are received in a competition, the prize is awarded only if the contestant scores at least 70 percent.
