About this opportunity
Snehapoorvam is a flagship welfare scheme of the Kerala Social Security Mission, under the Social Justice Department of the Government of Kerala. It provides regular monthly financial assistance to orphan children who continue to live with relatives or within the community rather than in institutions, supporting their education and basic needs from early childhood through higher and professional studies.
The scheme is open to children residing in Kerala who have lost both parents, or who have lost one parent and whose surviving parent is unable to care for them due to medical or financial reasons. Below Poverty Line families are eligible by default, while Above Poverty Line families must have annual income below twenty thousand rupees in rural areas and twenty-two thousand three hundred seventy-five rupees in urban areas. Beneficiaries range from children below five years of age to students pursuing degree, diploma and professional programmes.
Financial assistance is graded by class level and credited directly into the beneficiary's bank account. Children below five years and students from Class 1 to Class 5 receive three hundred rupees per month, Class 6 to Class 10 receive five hundred rupees per month, Class 11 and 12 receive seven hundred fifty rupees per month, and degree or professional course students receive one thousand rupees per month. The support continues each year subject to renewal and continued enrolment.
Applications are submitted through the E-Suraksha online portal of the Kerala Social Security Mission. Required documents include proof of orphan status, ration card, school or college bonafide certificate, Aadhaar and bank passbook copy. Verification is carried out by the Social Welfare Department and Local Self Government officials before sanction.
