National Rifle Association of India (NRAI)

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) is the national governing body for the sport of shooting in India. The federation was founded in 1951 by Shri G.V. Mavalankar, the first Speaker of the Lok Sabha, to promote and popularize shooting sports across the country. NRAI is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and serves as the official affiliate of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) and the Asian Shooting Confederation (ASC). The federation governs all rifle, pistol, and shotgun disciplines and selects national teams for the Olympic Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and World Championships. The organization conducts the National Shooting Championship Competitions (NSCC), the All India G.V. Mavalankar Championship, and the Kumar Surendra Singh Memorial Shooting Championship. It also runs zonal championships, India Open competitions, the All India Inter School Shooting Championship, and supports talent identification at the sub-junior, junior, youth, and senior levels. NRAI works with state rifle associations, defence units, and academies to develop a structured pathway for young shooters from grassroots participation to international competition.
