About this opportunity

The Hockey India Sub Junior National Championship is the premier age-group field hockey tournament in India for sub junior players. It is organised annually by Hockey India in separate editions for boys and girls, with state and academy teams competing for the national title.

State Hockey Associations and recognised Akademy Members affiliated to Hockey India enter teams. Players must meet Hockey India's age category rules for the sub junior bracket, with players typically aged under 17 years on the cut-off date set for the edition.

Teams are seeded into pools across multiple divisions based on previous performance, with pool stage matches followed by classification, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals. The tournament serves as the primary scouting ground for the Indian sub junior national hockey teams.

Matches are played in a 11-a-side format under FIH rules adapted by Hockey India, on natural or artificial turf at the host venue. Top performers are shortlisted for national coaching camps at the Sports Authority of India centres.
