About this opportunity
The Junior National Kabaddi Championship for girls is the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India national event for its age group. AKFI runs the girls' championship as its own tournament: it has its own circular, its own host state, its own dates and its own weight limit, and it is not played alongside the other section.
A player must be below 20 years of age on the last day of the event and must weigh 65 kg and below. Each affiliated State or Union Territory enters one team of 14 players, and AKFI directs that a team may only include players of that State or UT. Matches are played on mats and every player must wear playing shoes.
Entry is not something a family files. The State or UT kabaddi association selects the squad and submits the entry form online, and the player must hold an online AKFI registration number and identity card before that. A printed copy of the entry form travels to the venue, and a physical Aadhaar card is checked at the weighing.
Rounds and format
Teams are drawn into pools and play pool matches, after which the leading teams go into knockout rounds to decide the title. All matches are played on mats under AKFI rules, and the weighing is held before a team plays.
How entries are judged
Matches are decided on points scored through raids and tackles under AKFI rules, with the higher score at full time taking the match and the tie-breaking procedure applied in a knockout tie.
Selection process
Entry is decided by the State or UT association, which selects one squad of 14 from its own players. Inside the championship, teams advance on pool results and then on knockout matches, and the last team standing takes the junior national title for the girls' section.
Frequently asked questions
Who decides which players are entered?
The State or Union Territory kabaddi association affiliated to AKFI selects the squad and files the entry. A player or a school cannot enter directly, and AKFI directs that a squad contain players of that State or UT only.
What are the age and weight limits for this section?
A player must be below 20 years of age on the last day of the championship and must weigh 65 kg and below. Weight is checked at the official weighing, where a physical Aadhaar card is also verified.
How many players are in a team?
Fourteen. AKFI set this at its annual general meeting, and it applies to every State and UT team in the championship.
Do families pay for the stay?
No. The organising committee provides free boarding and lodging for the participating teams and officials, along with local transport, for the championship days. Families arrange their own travel to the host city.
What does a player need before the entry can be filed?
An online AKFI player registration, which produces a registration number and an identity card. AKFI states that players without one are not permitted to participate.
