About This Opportunity
The NIAS Education for the Gifted and Talented (NIAS-EGT) Programme is the National Programme on Identification and Mentoring of Gifted Children, anchored at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bengaluru. The programme covers children and adolescents aged 0-18 years across urban, rural, and tribal contexts in India.
The programme uses observation-based identification through workshops designed to observe children in action within their cultural settings, alongside structured nomination and selection processes for specific tracks. Mentoring is the core activity, and NIAS-EGT positions a mentor as a guide and facilitator who exposes the gifted child or adolescent to knowledge in their area of interest, hands-on learning experiences, and career guidance.
NIAS-EGT operates several interconnected initiatives. The general EGT programme runs identification and mentoring of gifted children across the country. The Advanced Learning Centres (ALC) admit children into structured advanced learning at grades 6 and 7 and continue mentoring through high school up to grade 12.
In addition, NIAS-EGT runs summer and winter workshops for children in the EGT pool, residential workshops in rural and tribal locations adapted to cultural context, and curriculum development for self-directed learning materials organised by difficulty rather than age.
