About this opportunity
The Youth (U-19) Men & Women National Boxing Championship is the premier national-level competition for Indian boxers aged 17 and 18 years, organised annually by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) in association with a host state amateur boxing association. The championship gathers state-nominated boxers from across India and serves as the principal pipeline for the senior national programme, the Asian U-19 Boxing Championships, the Youth World Championships and the Youth Olympic Games.
Male and female boxers compete in 10 weight categories each, ranging from 47-50 kg up to 90+ kg for men and from 45-48 kg up to 80+ kg for women. Each affiliated State and Union Territory boxing unit nominates one boxer per weight category, with additional entries permitted for Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) and the previous edition's top-ranked teams. Entries are routed through the affiliated State/UT unit and are not accepted directly from individual boxers. Bouts follow World Boxing technical rules and a 10-point scoring system, with daily weigh-ins and medical examinations conducted at the venue.
Gold medallists in each weight category typically earn direct selection trial entry for the national youth squad and qualification for international youth events such as the Asian U-19 Boxing Championships. Top performers gain visibility with national selectors, with Khelo India scheme administrators and with state-level sports authorities, opening pathways to advanced training, sports quotas in higher education and a long-term career in competitive boxing.
Participants must hold a BFI registration number, an annual medical fitness certificate and recent Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV test certificates valid within the previous three months. Lodging and boarding for boxers and accompanying officials are typically arranged by the host state association during the event.
