Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is a Government of India ministry responsible for the welfare, social justice, and empowerment of disadvantaged and marginalised sections of society. The ministry administers schemes for Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Backward Classes, Denotified Tribes, and senior citizens. The ministry implements flagship scholarship programmes including the Post-Matric Scholarship for SC Students, Pre-Matric Scholarship for OBC/EBC/DNT, and PM YASASVI scholarships for top class school and college education. These schemes provide financial assistance to enable students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue higher studies. The ministry operates through its Department of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. Programme implementation is coordinated with state governments and union territories through the National Scholarship Portal and Direct Benefit Transfer mechanisms.
