Award
₹5,000 to ₹20,000 a year, by course
The yearly amount by course group, academic allowance plus tuition fee: ₹5,000 for Grades 11 and 12 and other non-degree courses after Grade 10, all of it academic allowance (Group 4); ₹8,000 for graduate and postgraduate courses (Group 3); ₹13,000 for other professional courses (Group 2); ₹20,000 for degree and postgraduate professional courses (Group 1). States may add to the academic allowance.

Rules and guidelines
- The State or Union Territory where the student is permanently settled awards it, also when the student studies in another State
- Only two boys of the same parents get it; there is no such limit for girls
- No other scholarship or stipend at the same time; the student may choose whichever is more beneficial
- Seats filled through management, NRI or spot admission quotas are not covered
- 75% attendance in every academic year to keep it
Technology requirements
- A mobile number linked with Aadhaar; a minor without Aadhaar can use a parent's or guardian's Aadhaar
- An Android phone for face authentication in the NSP OTR app, or a visit to a Common Service Centre
About this opportunity
The Post-Matric Scholarship for OBC, EBC and DNT Students is one of five parts of PM YASASVI, a scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. It gives money each year to students who have passed Grade 10 and study a recognized course after it, from Grades 11 and 12 to graduate, postgraduate and PhD courses.
It is open to Indian students from Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC) and Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNT), as notified by the Central or State Government. Parents' or guardians' income from all sources must be up to ₹2.50 lakh a year. The State or Union Territory where the student is permanently settled awards the scholarship, also when the student studies in another State.
The yearly amount depends on the course group: ₹5,000 for Grades 11 and 12 and other non-degree courses after Grade 10, ₹8,000 for graduate and postgraduate courses, ₹13,000 for other professional courses, and ₹20,000 for degree and postgraduate professional courses such as medicine and engineering. Each amount is an academic allowance plus a tuition fee amount, and Grades 11 and 12 get the academic allowance only. States may add to the academic allowance from their own funds. The money goes into the student's bank account by Direct Benefit Transfer.
The scholarship is paid each year until the course ends, with satisfactory academic performance and 75% attendance. Students apply online on the National Scholarship Portal or their State's scholarship portal, before the last date their State sets.

For 2026-27 on the National Scholarship Portal, it is 30 October 2026 in Puducherry; 31 October 2026 in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu; 20 November 2026 in Punjab; 30 November 2026 in Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Chandigarh; 31 December 2026 in Tripura; 31 January 2027 in Haryana; and 15 February 2027 in Delhi. In Assam it closed on 30 September 2026. A State that runs its own scholarship portal may take applications there.
Can my child take another scholarship too?
No. A student holds one scholarship or stipend at a time and may choose whichever is more beneficial. Free lodging, or a grant for books, equipment or board and lodging, may be taken as well.
